Aix-Marseille Université,
PI: Christian G Benar, PhD
- Expertise: The Dynamap team (lead CG Bénar) of the "Institut de Neuroscience
des Systèmes" (INS,
Inserm & AMU) has extensive experience in signal
processing for multimodal brain mapping in basic
neuroscience and epilepsy.
The team performed the first EEG-MEG-SEEG trimodal recordings, in
collaboration with F.-Xavier Alario from the "Laboratoire de Psychologie
Cognitive" (CNRS & AMU).
Daniele Schon is the head of Dynamics of Cognitive
processes at INS; Agnès Trébuchon is a
neurologist (MD-PhD and Professor)
within the INS and the clinical neurophysiology department of
the Timone
hospital. All are experts in SEEG for cognitive protocols. V Jirsa is the head
of the INS and
an expert in computational modelling and brain dynamics. F
Bartolomei is the head of the clinical
neurophysiology unit. R Carron is the
neurosurgeon performing implantation of SEEG electrodes. JM
Badier is the
chief engineer of the MEG centre, who in charge of conducting MEG-EEG-SEEG
recordings.
Bucharest University,
Physics Department, PI: Andrei Barborica PhD, Co-PI: Ioana Mîndruta MD PhD
- A multidisciplinary clinical and research group performing SEEG has been
established in
2011, comprising physicists/biomedical engineers from Physics
Department (A Barborica, C Donos),
epileptologists from University Hospital
(I Mindruta) and neurosurgeons from Bagdasar-Arseni
Emergency Hospital (J
Ciurea). The group has extensive expertise in intracranial signal analysis,
cortico-cortical evoked potentials and effective brain connectivity. The
Epilepsy Unit at the Bucharest
University Emergency Hospital is the only
referral center that performs iEEG in Romania. The
collaboration between the
three departments, has allowed the exploration since mid-2012 of ~65
patients, at a rate of about 15 patients per year. The unit currently hosts 2
beds with long-term
video-EEG/video-iEEG recordings operating 24/7 with a
staff of EEG technicians. Research-grade
high-resolution (4096 Hz sampling
rate) SEEG recordings are being performed routinely, with the unit
upgrading
to 128 channels this year. State-of the art electrical stimulation using
standard (1Hz &50
Hz) and innovative protocols are implemented using a
clinical waveform stimulator. These
capabilities have allowed the development
of a strong clinical program, also providing original
datasets allowing the
analysis of epileptogenicity biomarkers and effective brain connectivity.
Hôpitaux Universitaires de
Genève, PI: Serge Vulliemoz, MD, PhD
- S. Vulliemoz has a dual training of physicist and epileptologist with
long standing expertise
in scalp and invasive EEG. He is one of the
senior clinicians in the EEG and epilepsy unit, the largest
Swiss centre
for presurgical evaluations in epilepsy evaluating both adults and children.
His research activity focuses on the investigation of functional networks in
patients with epilepsy
using high density EEG and simultaneous EEG and
fMRI recording. Recent research includes new
methodological development
and clinical application of electric source imaging and functional
connectivity analysis between brain sources using non-invasive EEG
recordings. This allows to track
connectivity changes during transient
epileptic activity with very high temporal resolution. It also
allows to
detect functional connectivity changes in the absence of visible epileptic
activity.
Multimodal recordings using invasive EEG include pioneering
work in simultaneous intracranial EEG
and fMRI as well as simultaneous
intracranial EEG and high-density scalp EEG.
